Michelle is a doctoral student at Stellenbosch University with a background in Animal Science, and has a keen interest in microbiology and related food safety. She has a good understanding of animal husbandry practices and its subsequent influence on antimicrobial resistance of concerning pathogens that can affect both animal- and human health. Her doctoral studies are focused on the investigation of an emerging foodborne pathogen across the agricultural sector of South Africa.

Michelle has both extensive lab and on-farm experience. She has a good understanding of all aspects of dairy farm management. Furthermore, she understands essential biosafety laboratory procedures and can work safely and confidently with a range of microorganisms.
